Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 June 2026
SkimFast is a browser extension that lets you read an X (Twitter) post's full reply thread inside a popover in your timeline, without navigating away. This policy explains exactly what data the extension touches and where it goes.
The short version: The SkimFast extension has no servers and no analytics. We do not collect, store, sell, or transmit your personal information. Everything happens in your browser. The only data the extension ever sends to a third party is your license key (to our payment provider, Polar, to verify your purchase).
What data SkimFast handles
X page content (x.com / twitter.com)
To show the “Skim” button and to open a thread, SkimFast reads and displays X content in your browser. All of this stays on your device — none of it is ever sent to us or to any third party.
Your license key
SkimFast is paid. To unlock it, the extension sends your license key (and our public organization id) to Polar, our payment and licensing provider, to confirm your purchase is valid. This is the only data SkimFast sends to a third party.
Data stored on your device
In your browser's extension storage, SkimFast keeps your license key and activation details, plus when it was last checked, so you stay unlocked without re-entering it. It also briefly keeps the last thread you opened in memory, for instant re-open. This data stays on your device (apart from the license check above) and is cleared when you uninstall the extension or deactivate your license.
What the extension does NOT do
- No analytics, telemetry, tracking, fingerprinting, or advertising.
- No collection of your name, email, browsing history, location, or contacts.
- Never collects or transmits your X password, cookies, or login tokens to us or any third party.
- No reading or sharing of your direct messages or private account data.
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone, for any purpose.
- No servers of our own — there is nowhere for your data to be sent or stored centrally.
Your email and payment details are handled by Polar at checkout, separately from the extension; SkimFast never receives them.
Our website (skimfa.st)
Our marketing website uses privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (DataFast and Vercel) to see roughly how many people visit and which links bring them here. These set no cookies, collect no personal information, and don't track you across other sites — so no cookie-consent banner is needed. This applies to the website only; the extension itself still collects and sends nothing about your browsing.
If you choose to post on our feature request board at skimfa.st/feature-requests, we store the email you verify with and the request you submit. We use your email only to confirm your SkimFast purchase, prevent spam, and notify you if your request's status changes. It is never shown publicly or sold. This applies only to the website board — the extension itself still sends nothing to us.
Permissions, briefly
- Access to x.com / twitter.com — to add the Skim button and open threads in place.
- Access to api.polar.sh — to validate your license key.
- Storage — to remember your license so you stay unlocked.
- Alarms — to re-check your license periodically in the background.
Data retention
License data is stored locally until you uninstall the extension or deactivate your license. We hold no copies because we operate no servers.
Children
SkimFast is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the revised version at this page.
